Wrenside near Kirkby Stephen
This hill farm set in a high hidden valley of the Pennines has been farmed traditionally. This area is being managed for its woodland and riverside habitats and meadows. If visiting in summer look out for plants that can be found in old traditionally farmed upland hay meadows such as melancholy thistle, globe flower and wood cranesbill. The river Belah, which is a Site of Special Scientific Interest, has cut through the rock here to create the steep wooded valley, with dramatic vertical rock faces and waterfalls. Use the access network here to create your own circular walk, or just enjoy the views.
