Thornhope near Alston
Situated in the South Tyne Valley this site provides a link to open access land. It is close to the Pennine Way and South Tyne Trail. Particulary suitable for the more serious fell walkers who are able to tackle steep rough ground across moorland areas. Spectacular views of the surrounding landscape from the fell tops and a good site for those interested in flora and fauna. Several species of raptor may be seen and the area is noted for the nationally scarce Black Grouse. The open access may be restricted in spring to avoid disturbance of ground nesting birds.
