Country Walk Summary

Atlow Moat near Ashbourne

A 0.25 km permissive footpath linking to the existing public footpath network to provide access alongside Henmore Brook and Atlow Moat Scheduled Monument. The monument earthworks are a well preserved example of a medieval homestead moat; documentary evidence indicates that the site was, at one time, the home of the Atlow family. The Brook, a tributary of the River Dove, provides an important wildlife habitat and, if you are very lucky, you may catch sight of an otter!
