Bugbrooke Meadows near Bugbrooke

An area of calcareous species-rich grassland on the site of a former limestone quarry representing the largest example of this type of vegetation in Northamptonshire. Calcareous species-rich grassland is a restricted and decling habit, both locally in the East Midlands and nationally throughout Britain. The site represents an isolated remnant of the once extensive limestone grassland typical of the area. More than two hundred flowering plant species have been recorded at the site.
