Linton Lane (Site I) near Ashington
Linton Lane Nature Reserve is managed by Northumberland Wildlife Trust since its restoration from an opencast coal mining site. There are two pools, the western one was not affected by the mining operations while the eastern one has been created following site restoration. There are large areas of woodland now across the site. The site is good for a variety of wetland and woodland bird species as well as grassland butterflies. The western and eastern pools are overlooked by bird hides.
